The Burden of Proof
21st Century American culture has decided almost unanimously that Science has disproved religion. Though there is one major problem with this notion. It is often thought that religion alone suffers from the inability to produce evidence for God’s existence. But in actually Both Science and Religion still suffer from this burden of proof. Still even today Science nor Religion can prove or disprove the existence of God. Though the notion that Science has been able to do so largely comes from the impression we often get from scientific progress. Here, there is an important consideration to make. That is, Just because science can in fact produce objects and information to prove its own existence doesn’t mean that it disproves the existence of God. The ability to calculate how much material it takes to construct a cruise ship, doesn’t tell us anything about the parting of the Red Sea. The mass of acquired acknowledge it has taken humans to figure out how to travel to space doesn’t null out the possibility of living in a Galaxy created by God. It is also not the case that any of the Abrahamic traditions claim that man is disallowed or incapable of manipulating the natural world. Which to a great extent is the objective of scientific praxis. Science does have a persuasive advantage over religion in that it can reify and reproduce its own knowledge and set of beliefs, but again, that doesn’t actually speak to or preclude the existence of God. Which is still now an open question.
